NARS Satin Lip Pencil Review

NARS is becoming a favorite brand of mine lately it seems… I finally tried their bronzer and love it, I have my eye on their new dual-intensity eye shadows that just launched, and this lip pencil might be my favorite lip product this month!

I purchased the color Lodhi, which is described as their coral shade, and it’s GORGEOUS!

20140728_141901 20140728_144109

Here’s how Sephora describes the product.

What it is:
A selection of high-impact, fashion-forward shades in a rich, creamy satin finish that stays on all day. (In my humble opinion, this doesn’t last all day. BUT it does wear for many hours and very nicely.)

What it does:
The Satin Lip Pencil dresses up lips in statement shades that seduce with rich, color-bright pigments, while drenching them in decadent moisture. This modern, long-wearing, vitamin-enriched formula for lips looks sumptuously saturated and dramatically defined. (This I agree with 110%! :)

What else you need to know:
The Satin Lip Pencil Category shade designations are all named for parks and gardens around the world. (Isn’t that SO cool? )

I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone! It gives a semi-matte finish, and is so soft! In fact a tip would be to watch yourself as you use it! Don’t push too hard because it can break off (smoosh off would be more appropriate…), and this is a pricey product (retails for $25) so we don’t want to waste it!

July Birchbox!

I was pretty excited about this Birchbox! Mainly because the box itself was colorful instead of just brown… Women’s Health Magazine sponsored this month’s box, so they dolled it up!

So, Coastal Scents is a brand I keep hearing about and still haven’t purchased a product from… But now I can at least try their shadows so I can try these out. The description Birchbox sent said:

Coastal Scents – Revealed 2 Eye Shadow Palette

What – From the just-launched palette, these matte and shimmery shades will have you tickled pink.

How – Rosy hues are incredibly versatile – blend and layer all four colors to perfect your look.

Now, I don’t feel these are rosy. They look like a classic neutral palette to me… But maybe they’ll look rosy on my lids? Either way, I’m excited to try em!

Real Chemistry – Luminous 3 Minute Peel (If I bought a full-size it would be $48!!!! Ah!)

What – this acid-free peel gently exfoliates for instantly softer, smoother, brighter skin.

How – Apply to clean face, wait 30 seconds, and massage to slough off dull, dry skin. Rinse Away.

Well, the packaging is fun! I’ll give this a try and let you know how it goes!

**Beauty Extra**

100% Pure – Gingerade Shower Gel

What – All-natural richly foaming cleanser with aloe to hydrate and green tea to nourish skin.

How – Apply sparingly to wash cloth or sponge, massage into damp skin, and rinse away.

So, I’m always a little leery of ginger scented things, but I’ll give this a whirl when I’m traveling next!

Whish – Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Acai Grapefruit

What – A Shea butter-packed shaving cream in a pick-me-up grapefruit scent.

How – Apply to legs, armpits, or bikini line before you shave.

I love shaving creams! (EOS is my favorite!) So I’m excited to try this and it really does smell nice! :)

Balance Me – Wonder Eye Cream

What – Antiaging multitasker that conquers wrinkles and dark circles at the first signs of agin.

How – Dab a pea-sized amount along undereye contour, steering clearing of lash line.

So overall, I loved this box! The only thing I wasn’t in love with was my beauty extra ( aka foil packet….). Great job Birchbox!

July Ipsy Bag!

IMG_20140728_151406I’ve heard everyone who’s received this bag loves it! I’m not sure why, but I didn’t love the pink scallops. It felt unfinished and cheap… But maybe that’s just me! Overall, I was excited about 3 of the 5 products here. The other 2 were a disappointment…

First Up, Models’ Own Nail Polish

IMG_20140728_151534This is a sheer red polish with chunky glitter. A funky and fun topcoat that’s just up my alley! You’ll find this on my toes soon!

BareMinerals is a great brand, and this new product seemed exciting. A 5 in 1 cream shadow! I think I received the shade – Sweet Spice.  After trying this, a couple of things I noticed in the swatch – it took a long time to dry! So, that’s something to keep in mind if you’re interested in purchasing this product. I’m not sure it’ll fit my needs, but I was excited to try this anyway!!IMG_20140728_151510 IMG_20140728_151518

Next product was the Citrus-Ginger lotion. I DID NOT LIKE THIS. I’ll use it (MAYBE) at night… or on my feet? It didn’t feel extremely wonderful – so nothing magical as far as lotions go.  The biggest thing was the scent though. It smelled like medicine. :( Since it was strong then it made it that much more unappealing…

Tints & Sass is a product I’ve certainly never heard of. Elizabeth Mott is a brand that has produced some good products so I figured it could be good! And this product looked fun! A lip and cheek stain is often something I reach for on long days! This is a cherry color, and came with a lot of product! This texture and consistency is a possible dupe for Benefit’s Benetint!

Lastly, they included a Pur-Lisse sunscreen. I’ve received this product from so many types of subscription boxes, and I just don’t wear a lot of variety in my sunscreens. This one is good, but nothing extremely special, so I wasn’t thrilled about it.

Overall, this was still worth the $10 I paid! I have some new products I’m excited to try. (And 2 I may pass along to a roommate!)

New at the Drugstore! Maybelline Leather Color Tattoos

So, I have SUPER oily eyelids! My eyeshadow doesn’t last long without a GOOD primer. Some people seem to make do with just foundation on the eyes or concealer… but I need the heavy-duty stuff! So when Maybelline started their Maybelline color tattoo collection I thought they were manna from heaven! The tattoos stay put on me all day and are my favorite bases for shadows as well! (I prefer them to the MAC paintpots too!)

Now, I don’t know how I missed the limited edition formulas last year, but I did… So I picked up EVERY shade the second they came into my nearest drugstore! There are 4 matte shades and one shimmer.

From left to right we have:  Chocolate Suede, Vintage Plum, Deep Forest, Creamy Beige, Dramatic Black.

The Chocolate Suede is the shimmer shade. It’s similar to “Bad to the Bronze” in the permanent collection, but it has less of a metallic look to it. These shades feel so creamy, and they apply really smoothly. They didn’t swatch in one opaque coat (borderline patchy on a few shades), but they built up to an opaque color easily. So if you’d like a light layer, or a deeper one – you can get it with these!

* The first swipe of vintage plum looked like nearly a different color, so I showed you a swatch with a single layer, and one with a double layer!

Overall, I love these. But I feel they live up to their name well. They have a “leather” finish! Maybe that’ll be the next phrase instead of matte and satin! These are somewhere in between! :) Definitely worth checking out!

Beachy Waves Hair Tutorial – Review the products that made it happen!

So I received this spray in my ipsy bag awhile ago, and was trying it out and discovered I loved it! It smells amazing, and creates fun beachy waves, but doesn’t suck all the moisture out of my hair. :)

This curling wand set from nume is also amazing, so you’ll see me using it in this tutorial for beachy waves!

Overall, I felt this spray had good lasting power so I’d say it’s worth having!!!

TARTE Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette – Swatches & Review

20140721_222000 20140721_221853

Highlighter: Champagne – I LOVE this! It’s incredibly sheer and blendable, so it comes off very natural and dewy looking. :) Maybe my new favorite highlighter actually!

Bronzer: Park Avenue Princess – A light milk chocolate color, NOT good for contouring which is what I use bronzer for a lot….  I’m extremely fair, and I am actually able to use this as a real bronzer. It’s very light, so it doesn’t look muddy.

Blush: Unleashed – Also, a new favorite. It is a perfect “my cheeks, but better” (Is that a thing?) color. It’s a beautiful, natural flush.

Dusky Purple Trio: bare to explore, make a mauve, plum away with me ( Make a Mauve is my favorite – it’s beautiful! The lighting here made the swatches look almost brown. They come off more mauve/purple normally. )

20140721_221913 20140721_221615

Gold Trio: up to no gold, tan-gled up in you, don’t turn a-brown ( The gold is extremely pigmented and creamy, and the tan shade is also quite lovely! But… the dark brown is dry and not extremely pigmented… But it blends very nicely. )

20140721_221923 20140721_221729(0)

This may be my new travel palette! It has a beautiful blush, highlighter and bronzer. The shadows here are diverse and great quality! The two shadows that wasn’t the best was “bare to explore” and “don’t turn-a-brown”. They were a little dry feeling and didn’t have the opacity and creaminess that you would expect. But overall, I’d still say this palette is a winner for me! :)

Sunday Reflections

I love looking back on my previous week every Sunday, so I thought I’d share some things with you!

So this week, I had a work party I went to. And it was SOOO fun! It was delicious! As we’re mingling and chatting and having fun on the grass I guess the heat went to my brain or something… I was sitting next to boy co-worker, who is a good friend and we laugh and joke ALL the time. (Nothing with any deep meaning behind it or anything though…) So… the song “Me and My Broken Heart” ( Any of you who haven’t heard it here ya go! )  started playing and I was about to quote the first line to him because we were laughing about relationships. But I missed it, so I went for the second line in the song without missing a beat. And then we all died laughing because it was so strange! I said” All I need’s a little love in the dark…” Yep. Merciless teasing, which was well deserved for my strange social skill massacre! Yikes!

My nephew, Porter – who is the cutest child ever…

Vday all (5 of 8)

See. I told ya.

He had a seizure the other day and was taken to the hospital. The doctors haven’t fully determined the cause and so it’s hard to prevent it happening again! :( There is nothing so tragic as seeing a baby in a hospital bed. I thank God for modern medicine and the miracles that we’re blessed with everyday! For any of you who are religious please pray for him!

So a fun fact – I lived in Hawaii for 2 years when I was younger. And today I went to church where the congregation was predominantly Polynesian. so it was really fun being there. As if that weren’t cool enough, they did something that brought such sweet memories to my mind! So a tradition is to sing this song as a goodbye to families who are moving away from the area.  It’s called Aloha Oe.  Have you seen the movie Lilo & Stitch? When the two sisters are saying goodbye they sing this and it’s SOOO sad!

Here are the words and their meaning.  Imagine yourself saying goodbye to family and friends while they literally surround you and sing. Yes, tears are nearly always involved.

Haʻaheo ka ua i nā pali Proudly swept the rain by the cliffs
Ke nihi aʻela i ka nahele As it glided through the trees
E hahai (uhai) ana paha i ka liko Still following ever the bud
Pua ʻāhihi lehua o uka The ʻāhihi lehua[5] of the vale
Aloha ʻoe, aloha ʻoe Farewell to thee, farewell to thee
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
One fond embrace, One fond embrace,
A hoʻi aʻe au ‘Ere I depart
Until we meet again Until we meet again
ʻO ka haliʻa aloha i hiki mai Sweet memories come back to me
Ke hone aʻe nei i Bringing fresh remembrances
Kuʻu manawa Of the past
ʻO ʻoe nō kaʻu ipo aloha Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
A loko e hana nei From you, true love shall never depart
Maopopo kuʻu ʻike i ka nani I have seen and watched your loveliness
Nā pua rose o Maunawili The sweet rose of Maunawili
I laila hiaʻia nā manu And ’tis there the birds of love dwell
Mikiʻala i ka nani o ka lipo And sip the honey from your lips

Any highlights or reflections from your week?
